Hitting Development
BECOME A COMPLETE HITTER
01
BAT SPEED & POWER
Bat speed is to hitters as velocity is to pitchers, swing the bat faster and you improve your chances for positive outcomes. Bat speed is directly related to your ability to hit the ball hard (exit velocity). Think of bat speed as a foundation, without enough speed you can only produce so much at the plate.
03
SWING DECISIONS
Players who swing at strikes often and lay off the "almost strikes" give themselves the best chance for success. Simply put, swing at more strikes and take balls. Learn to recognize pitch types and locations and swing often at your pitch, while laying off "pitcher's" pitches.
02
BAT - TO - BALL SKILL
Bat-to-ball skill relates to your ability to make consistent quality contact and swing the bat accurately at various pitch speeds, types, and locations. How often can you square up the ball on the sweet spot? How well can you transfer your bat speed into well produced batted balls?
04
PLAN & APPROACH
Great hitters have great plans at the plate. They study pitcher tendencies; they recognize situations and understand leverage counts vs neutral counts. Hitters need to be able to control the batter's box, hunting pitches, hunting areas of the zone, and taking away a pitcher's strength.

Velocity - spin rate - release point - accuracy
1
VELOCITY & MOVEMENT
Velocity and movement directly relate to how you get hitters out. Good "stuff" determines the level of play a pitcher is able to get to. We want to throw hard and create movement that generates swing and miss and/or poor contact.

-Pitch Design

2
COMMAND
Command is your ability to throw the ball where you want. Can you put the ball in the zone when you want, and can you make hitters chase out of the zone when you want? Command, combined with good "stuff" (velocity and movement) will allow you to get on the mound the most. Executing pitches allows you to sequence pitches against hitters and make them uncomfortable in the box.
3
HEALTH & DURABILITY
Can you throw when your team needs you or are you always injured? Durability and availability are directly tied to following structured programs for on-ramping your arm and following proper pre and post-throwing routines. You need a plan for rest and recovery. You need a plan for being a healthy pitcher. Your weightroom training and your throwing programs should be structured to the demands of your season.
